The first step when it comes to choosing a refrigerator is deciding what should be its capacity. It depends on a large extend to the family size and your eating habits. The general guideline is that-
A bachelor or family with 1-2 members will need a fridge with capacity less than 200 litre;
Small families with 3-4 members will need a fridge of size 200-350 L;
Larger families with more than 5 members will need a fridge of size 400L and above.

Side-By-Side Door Refrigerators are larger in size with capacity between 500L and 900L, making it suitable for large families. These type of refrigerators have advanced features and may even have in-built water dispenser.
It is recommended that you thoroughly analyse your needs before you buy a side-by-side refrigerator because, it usually has a large freezer space ( around 1/3rd the total capacity). Many Indian families do not need such a large freezer capacity and would be better off with a large double door refrigerator.
